LYNN, Mass. — The visiting Newport Gulls scored in seven of the nine innings to climb ahead and stay ahead in a 12-0 win over the North Shore Navigators in New England Collegiate Baseball League action on Tuesday at Fraser Field.

Designated hitter Isaac Kim (UC Santa Barbara) was a bright spot for the Navigators offense, finishing as one of two players to reach base twice. His lead-off double in the seventh inning extended his hit streak to four consecutive games.

“He looks good at the plate,” manager Bob Macaluso said of Kim's hitting streak. “He’s balanced, he’s on time…he’s got bat speed and he’s got power, so he’s helped us.”

The other batter to reach safely twice was right fielder Ryan Gerety (Northeastern). Gerety and Kim shared a similar stat line as both found their way on base via a hit and a free pass. 

“We need more offense,” Macaulso said on what he wants to see from the team in their next game. “We hit well last night, but I’d like to see us hit better.”

Making his third of the season for the Navigators was Owen Tross (Middlebury). The right-hander had been a strikeout machine in his prior outings, producing 13 strikeouts across 11.2 combined innings. Tross continued to produce swings and misses on Tuesday, generating four strikeouts across four innings pitched.

The Gulls entered the contest holding the second-best team batting average in the NECBL at .263. They showcased their hitting prowess in the early frames as a pair of two-out RBI singles from Dixon Williams (East Carolina) and Nolan Stevens (Mississippi State) gave the Gulls a 3-0 lead through the first two innings.

Stevens was one of the Gulls' top hitters all game long. He reached base four times via a pair of walks and hits while recording an RBI and three runs.

Newport continued to do damage with two outs in the fourth inning as a throwing error allowed Stevens to score from third and swell the lead to 5-0.

The Gulls continued to score in the middle frames as a two-run home run from Tyler Hare (Wofford) secured the third two-run inning for the Gulls and put the game out of reach.

Jack Bello (Air Force) and Gloucester native Zach Morris (Rhode Island) each pitched scoreless innings out of the North Shore bullpen.

The Navs will have Wednesday off before returning to Fraser Field to continue their streak of nine consecutive Coastal Division games. First pitching on Thursday is set for 6:05 p.m. against the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks.

“It was a tough turnaround (from last night’s game in Bristol). … I started to see some guys getting tired,” Macaluso said on the team’s day off. “The rest will be good.”
