Navs Fall to Danbury MondayLYNN, Mass. — The North Shore Navigators lost for just the third time in a nine-game span as three straight run-scoring innings lifted the Danbury Westerners to a 5-2 win in Monday night’s New England Collegiate Baseball League game at Fraser Field. North Shore slipped to 16-18 on the season, while Danbury improved to the .500 mark at 17-17. Right fielder Jake McElroy (Holy Cross) and pinch-hitting second baseman Luca Trigiani (William & Mary) drove in runs for North Shore, which registered six hits and left 10 runners on base. Beverly native Brayden Clark (Salve Regina) allowed two earned runs and struck out four across five innings in defeat. Sawyer Duarte (Middlebury), Jairo Vasquez (Northern Essex CC) and Ryan Bradley (Bryant) each pitched scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Bradley worked around two hits and struck out the side in the ninth. After Clark pitched a 1-2-3 first, the Westerners got on the board after first baseman William Cook (Louisville) doubled and second baseman Billy Gerlott (Penn State) followed with an RBI single. Two-out offense helped Danbury extend its lead to 5-0 in the third, as an error and hit batter led to third baseman Hayden Miller (College of Charleston) hitting a three-run home run to right. North Shore got on the board in the fifth as left fielder Stan DeMartinis (Bentley) ripped a leadoff triple and scored on McElroy’s sacrifice fly to right field. In the seventh, four consecutive walks made it a 5-2 game against Danbury reliever Jonathan Link (Trinity). Catcher Jacob Jarrell (Clemson) worked a one-out free pass and scored three batters later after Trigiani drew ball four. Shortstop Javon Hernandez (Jacksonville State) went 3-for-5 with an RBI from the top of the Danbury lineup. Miller had two hits, two runs scored and three RBI. Jordan Falco (Adelphi) pitched six innings of one-run ball en route to his third consecutive win, and Anthony Steele (Penn State) struck out five in 2.2 scoreless and hitless innings for a save. The Navs return to the road for a Tuesday night contest with the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks in Oak Bluffs. First pitch from The Shark Tank is set for 7:05 p.m. |
