BROCKTON, Mass. -- The North Shore Navigators hit safely in seven of their nine innings at the plate and totaled 10 knocks, but the Brockton Rox recorded three multiple-run frames on the way to a 10-5 win in Futures Collegiate Baseball League action on Wednesday night at Campanelli Stadium.

The Navs dropped their third straight game and fell to 14-18 on the season, while Brockton used its fourth win in a row to jump above .500 at 17-16.

Third baseman Jake McElroy (Holy Cross) went 4-for-4 to lead North Shore’s offense, while shortstop Cody Morissette (Boston College) finished with a pair of hits and an RBI. Right fielder Jack Whorf (UMass) crossed the plate for two of the team’s five runs.

After Brockton starter Gavin Reily (Wheaton) started the game with a 1-2-3 inning, his offense put up a crooked number in its first at-bats to take a 4-0 lead.

Center fielder Joel Lara (Franklin Pierce) drew a leadoff walk before three straight Rox posted one-out hits against Navs lefty Will Carpenter (Fisher) to get the scoring going. First baseman Joe Bramanti’s (Maine) single inside third scored the first two runs, and designated hitter Buddy Dewaine’s (Central Connecticut State) two-run homer into the bullpen extended the lead to four.

The Navs immediately responded with three runs on two hits of their own and threatened to tie the score in one swoop during the second inning.

Designated hitter Cam Climo (UMass Lowell) reached on a fielding error to begin the inning and advanced to second on a failed pickoff. After Whorf drew a one-out walk, McElroy singled up the middle and left fielder Tommy Seidl’s (Harvard) knock to center brought home North Shore’s first run. Catcher Dylan January (Franklin Pierce) then drew a bases-loaded walk before Seidl slid in safely on a wild pitch to make the score 4-3.

Carpenter settled in for a 1-2-3 third before the Rox added an insurance run after left fielder Jacob Studley (Wheaton) reached on a fielding error that followed second baseman Patrick DeSalvo’s (Georgetown) one-out base hit. After Seidl robbed what would have been a homer for Rox catcher Jake Miller (Franklin Pierce) at the left-field wall in the fourth, DeSalvo extended the home team’s lead to 7-3 with a two-out, two-run single just an inning later.

North Shore got a run back during a sixth inning that started with Whorf and McElroy hitting back-to-back singles. Whorf scored through the back door as Seidl hit a grounder to shortstop.

In the eighth, Lara singled and stole second before Studley’s single to center in the next at-bat brought him home for Brockton. Right fielder Andy Marra’s (Georgetown) sacrifice fly and a passed ball scored the final two Rox runs.

The Navs marked the scoreboard one final time in the ninth as Morissette’s double to left brought home center fielder Ben Malgeri (Northeastern) following a two-out walk.

Reily worked through five innings to post his second win of the summer for Brockton, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out three. At the plate, third baseman Thomas Lapham (Babson) went 3-for-5 and scored a run.

Suffering his first loss in his sixth appearance and first start for the Navs, Carpenter allowed the first five Rox runs on five hits and struck out four over the first four frames. Parker Browne (Suffolk) and Jack Wallace (Franklin Pierce) both tossed scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

The Navs and Rox conclude their three-game series with a Thursday return to Fraser Field. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
