Will Jones Named NECBL Pitcher of the Week

LYNN, Mass. — The New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) recognized the North Shore Navigators’ Will Jones as the Week 8 Pitcher of the Week, it was announced on Monday evening.

The Hamilton native and rising Northeastern University senior pitched the first 5.2 innings of North Shore’s 8-0 win over Upper Valley in the second game of last Wednesday’s doubleheader sweep at Fraser Field. Jones struck out a season-high eight batters while allowing just three hits without issuing a walk, ultimately finishing his third shutout start and sixth start of at least five innings out of seven total this summer.

Days earlier, Jones also pitched a scoreless inning as the East Division starting pitcher and earned the victory in the NECBL All-Star Game in Bristol, Conn. The 6-foot-5 left-hander became only the second-ever Navigator to start the league’s midsummer classic and first since 2009.

Jones is 2-1 with a league-leading 0.76 ERA and 37 strikeouts across 35.1 innings in seven outings this summer. He has surrendered only 20 hits, three earned runs and three walks, while opponents are hitting a miniscule .157 against him.

Jones is the second Navigator in as many weeks to earn one of the NECBL’s weekly honors, as center fielder Kyle Jones (Florida) was the Week 7 Player of the Week after a 10-for-22 showing prior to the All-Star break.

The Navigators return to action on Tuesday evening for their final Coastal Division matchup of the summer against the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks in Oak Bluffs.
