SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. 一 The North Shore Navigators scored double-digit runs for a second consecutive game, logging eight over the final two innings en route to a 10-3 win over the host Ocean State Waves in Thursday’s New England Collegiate Baseball League game at Old Mountain Field.

North Shore moved back into a fourth-place tie with Ocean State in the Coastal Division standings at 13-20 and has now posted back-to-back wins for the first time in July.

Center fielder Kyle Jones (Florida) sparked the Navs offense from the top of the batting order, going 4-for-5 with a double, run scored and four RBI. Right fielder Ryan Gerety (Northeastern) scored three runs while posting two hits and two walks, while catcher Ryan MacDougall (Dayton) also crossed the plate multiple times. 

North Shore wasted little time jumping on the scoreboard first, scoring the opening run after putting a leadoff runner aboard in the first inning. Jones walked and moved into scoring position on shortstop Reece Moroney’s (Rhode Island) grounder. First baseman Isaac Kim (UC Santa Barbara) reached base on an infield single past the mound, and a subsequent throwing error allowed Jones to score.

Jones also made his mark in the field to help protect the early lead, robbing a home run by Ocean State right fielder Eric Genther (Rhode Island) with a catch over the center-field wall to end the home team’s half of the first.

Navs starter Nick Reiser (Bridgewater State) worked around catcher Tommy McAndrews’ two-out double in the second with back-to-back strikeouts. The Nahant native wound up allowing just three hits and striking out three across a season-long four shutout innings in his first start of the summer.

MacDougall knocked a run-scoring single through the shortstop hole that doubled the North Shore lead to 2-0 in the fourth. Gerety led off the frame with an infield single and stole second to present the RBI opportunity.

The Navs broke the game open with a three-run eighth. Ocean State reliever Jack Smith (Arkansas) struck out the first two he faced, but two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases before second baseman Brendan Jones (Holy Cross) was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Kyle Jones then ripped a two-run single in front of the right fielder to increase the lead to five.

Back-to-back doubles helped Ocean State start a two-run eighth and break the combined shutout bid. The North Shore offense, however, wasn’t done as 11 men batted and five scored in the ninth. 

A pair of one-out walks between pinch hitter Jesse Jaconski’s (Penn State) infield single loaded the bases, and MacDougall’s fielder’s choice grounder beyond second base plated a run. After pinch runner Andrew Bianco (Seton Hall) scored on a wild pitch, Kyle Jones punctuated the inning with a two-run single to center and Tim McGuire (Sacred Heart) drew another bases-loaded free pass two batters later.

Harrison Feinberg (Northeastern) hit a pinch-hit RBI double in Ocean State’s ninth, but Swampscott native Pierce Friedman (Maine) closed out the victory with a strikeout. 

The victory was credited to Ryan Griffin (Northeastern), who recorded a strikeout in his 1-2-3 fifth inning of work. Newly named NECBL All-Star Truman Pauley (Harvard) carried the load for the North Shore bullpen, totaling seven strikeouts across a three-inning relief appearance. Pauley struck out the side in the seventh.

The Navs conclude their five-game road trip with a Friday visit to the Sanford Mainers. First pitch at Goodall Park is set for 6:30 p.m.
