OAK BLUFFS, Mass. 一 The North Shore Navigators put together a season-best offensive effort for the second consecutive day, scoring in seven different innings and pounding out 20 hits en route to an 18-5 win over the host Martha’s Vineyard Sharks in Tuesday’s New England Collegiate Baseball League game at The Shark Tank on the campus of Martha's Vineyard Regional High School.

The Navs snapped a four-game skid and improved to 12-20 with the victory, while Martha’s Vineyard slipped to 15-15 following its second straight loss.

North Shore had 12 players contribute to only the fourth 20-hit game in franchise history, setting single-game franchise records for both hits and runs in the NECBL era. Third baseman Pat D’Amico (Bryant) reached base in all four of his plate appearances, highlighting a 2-for-2 night with four RBI and four runs scored by hitting a grand slam home run in the second inning.

Catcher Matt Chatelle (Rutgers) also had a pair of hits and drove in four. It was the Stoneham native’s second four-RBI performance across two summers in a North Shore uniform. Center fielder Kyle Jones (Florida) and right fielder Ryan Gerety (Northeastern) each posted a three-hit game.

North Shore’s previous season-high hit total was 14 in the first game of Monday’s doubleheader at Newport.

The North Shore offense struck early and often, jumping out to a 3-0 in the top of the first. Jones hit a leadoff single and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. After the next two batters were hit by a pitch and walked, designated hitter Isaac Kim’s (UC Santa Barbara) grounder to second plated the opening run and Chatelle dunked a two-run single into shallow right.

Shortstop Chris Hacopian (Maryland) got the hosts on the board on a single two batters into the Sharks’ half of the opening frame. However, Peabody native Joe Castrichini (Longwood) limited the damage by stranding the bases loaded to begin his first start of the summer.

One swing of the bat helped the Navs expand their lead to 7-1 in the second. Jones’ second base hit in as many innings sandwiched between a pair of walks filled up the bases before D’Amico cleared the center-field fences for a grand slam, making him the first North Shore batter to hit multiple home runs on the season.

A three-hit second brought Martha’s Vineyard back within 7-4, but the visitors scratched across two more runs in the third. Gerety hit a leadoff single and stole second to move into scoring position for left fielder Danny MacDougall (Endicott), who reached on a three-base error on a squibbing grounder in front of the mound and scored on a wild pitch.

Castrichini got the help of outstanding defense to post the first zero of the game in a 1-2-3 bottom of the third, as Jones lept for a leadoff catch on the warning track, second baseman Brendan Jones (Holy Cross) made a diving stab in the hole and Chatelle caught Vineyard left fielder Griffin Mills (Northwestern) attempting to steal following a two-out walk drawn.

Back-to-back doubles by D’Amico and Kim to begin the fourth produced another North Shore run before first baseman Sonny Rao (Northwestern) knocked an RBI single of his own off the first base bag. After Vineyard reliever Luke Brown (Clemson) retired the first two batters he faced, MacDougall’s RBI hit capped off a three-run inning.

North Shore sent eight men to bat in a three-run fifth, which began with shortstop Reece Moroney (Rhode Island) getting aboard on a one-out single before D’Amico walked. Rao reached on a dropped fly ball error that brought in a run. The next batter was Chatelle, whose two-run double found grass between three Vineyard defenders in right.

Designated hitter Lance Trippel’s (Florida State) fifth-inning sacrifice fly in the fifth brought the Sharks a run closer, but the relief trio of Jack Iannibelli (Stonehill), Ryan Griffin (Northeastern) and Swampscott native Pierce Friedman (Maine) finished the game with 4.2 scoreless innings. Iannibelli carried the bulk of the load for the bullpen and was rewarded with the win for 2.2 innings of two-hit ball with a pair of strikeouts.

The Navs finished the night with a run in the eighth and two in the ninth, reaching the 20-hit marker for the first time since 2020 in the process.

In the eighth, pinch hitter Jesse Jaconski (Penn State) crossed the plate on a Moroney sacrifice fly after reaching on an error. The final frame saw Brendan Jones and Moroney each drive in a two-out run, with Jones doing so on a double.

Friedman faced four batters to close in the game in the ninth, striking out two.

Hacopian went 3-for-5 with an RBI to lead Martha’s Vineyard. Starting pitcher Jackson Cole (Clemson) was saddled with his second loss to North Shore, allowing seven runs in just 1.1 innings.

After taking Wednesday off, the Navs resume their five-game road trip with a Thursday trip to face the Ocean State Waves in South Kingstown, R.I. First pitch at Old Mountain Field is set for 6:30 p.m.
