LYNN, Mass. -- The North Shore Navigators headed to two of the nation’s premier college conferences for their latest player signings, welcoming three players from the Big 10 and Big 12 to their roster for the 2023 New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) season.

Ohio State’s Henry Kaczmar will patrol shortstop at Fraser Field following his freshman year with the Buckeyes. Kaczmar has been a regular in the lineup since the season began in February, as he has posted a .259 average with four doubles, 13 RBI, 11 runs scored and five stolen bases through the first 22 games. He was an All-Ohio honoree after his final two seasons at Walsh Jesuit High School, including a senior year that saw him hit .357 with five home runs, 29 RBI and 29 runs scored.

Pitcher David Hagaman is the first of two West Virginia products coming to the North Shore this summer. The 6-foot-4 redshirt freshman from Egg Harbor City, N.J., is seeing his first action as a Mountaineer this spring, having allowed just one earned run (which came in his first appearance of the season) and logged five strikeouts over 9.2 innings of work. Hagaman struck out 81 in 48.2 innings to cap his career at Holy Spirit High School.

North Shore’s connection with West Virginia for the second straight summer continues with outfielder Evan Smith, a sophomore hailing from Ashburn, Va. Smith appeared in 30 games as a true freshman in 2022, hitting his first collegiate home run -- a grand slam against Texas Tech -- and 10 RBI in that span. He has been used regularly off the bench again this season, helping the Mountaineers get off to a 19-6 start.

Hagaman and Smith were also teammates last summer, playing for the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders of the Northwoods League. Hagaman struck out 55 and had a 3.95 ERA in 41 innings of work on the mound, while Smith logged 11 extra-base hits and 17 RBI in 39 games.

The Navs kick off their 16th summer of collegiate baseball on Wednesday, June 7 and will host their home opener at a renovated Fraser Field on Friday, June 9. The 2023 season includes 22 home games, as well as the return of the NECBL All-Star Game to Lynn on Sunday, July 23.
