NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (August 2, 2021) -- The New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) recognized the North Shore Navigators’ Luke Marshall (Stonehill) as the ninth and final Pitcher of the Week for the 2021 season, it was announced on Monday afternoon.

The NECBL’s only player or pitcher to earn multiple weekly awards this summer, Marshall wrapped up his second regular season in a North Shore uniform with as dominant of an outing by a starter thus far. The right-hander from Swampscott pitched six innings of one-hit ball and struck out as season-high 11 of the 20 batters he faced on the way to last Wednesday’s 11-0 win over Winnipesaukee.

Marshall set down the first 10 Muskrats of the game before issuing a single walk in the fourth inning and then struck out the side after allowing a leadoff base hit to begin the following frame. During the dominant outing, Marshall lowered his season ERA to 3.07 and his opponent’s batting average to .149, while his WHIP dropped below 1.00 (0.90).

In eight apparances (all starts) this summer, Marshall has thrown six innings on four occasions and started three of North Shore’s league-leading five shutouts. He now ranks in the top-five in the league in ERA, strikeouts (50) and innings pitched (41). The 50 K’s are good enough for a franchise record in the NECBL era (2008-11, 2021).

The Navs have earned three of the nine NECBL Pitcher of the Week honors this summer, marking the most in franchise history. Jackson Emus (Princeton) took home the June 28 honor after dealing seven shutout innings in a June 24 win over the Muskrats. Marshall’s first award came two weeks later after he blanked the Vermont Mountaineers over six innings of one-hit ball with nine strikeouts on July 6.

Prior to returning to the North Shore for the second straight season, Marshall enjoyed an outstanding junior spring at Stonehill, where he fanned 46 in 43.1 innings of work and earned Third Team All-Northeast-10 Conference honors.
