LYNN, Mass. -- As the North Shore Navigators get set to open their 2021 season in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) later this week, the team has signed three pitchers from the junior college ranks.
A 6-foot-3, 225-pound righty, Caleb Hollis joins the Navs following his season at Crowder College in Missouri. The native of Mission, Texas won four of his eight appearances for the Roughriders this spring, five of which were scoreless. He struck out 24 batters in 12.2 innings. Hollis began his college career at Division 3 Southwestern University in 2020 and graduated from McAllen Memorial High School, where he was a Perfect Game Preseason All-American.
This summer will mark a Massachusetts homecoming for Braintree’s Myles McDermott, who attended Archbishop Williams High School before making his college debut at San Jacinto College this year. McDermott, who helped a high school state championship team during his sophomore year at Williams, pitched a scoreless inning in his only appearance of this college season for the San Jac Gators.
Left-hander Ryan Steinhauer joins the Navs and will head to Dayton in the fall after helping Lansing Community College reach the NJCAA Region XII Baseball Championship during his second collegiate season this spring. He went 2-0 with a 3.52 ERA across three relief appearances for the Stars, striking out 12 in just 7.2 innings. The Saline, Mich., native opened his career at Division 2 Saginaw Valley State in 2020.
