Stonehill Skyhawks Flying to Navigators in 2020

02/13/2020 9:33 AM

LYNN, Mass. -- The North Shore Navigators dipped into the competitive Division 2 ranks of the Northeast-10 Conference for their next two signings and hauled in a pair of Massachusetts natives to add to the pitching staff.

Stonehill College freshman Colin Jaena and sophomore Luke Marshall will join the Navs during the upcoming 2020 season. President and General Manager Derek January officially welcomed the local Futures Collegiate Baseball League club’s two newest members on Thursday.

Jaena will join the Navigators roster following his first college season. The 6-foot, 170-pound native of Wakefield finished his Austin Prep career as a two-time Catholic Central League All-Star and won a Division 3 state championship alongside three other Navs ― UMass Lowell’s Jon Gilbride (2019-20), Cam Seguin (2019) and Harvard’s Logan Bravo (2019) ― as a junior. Jaena won six games, saved another and posted a 2.31 ERA with 30 strikeouts during his final season as a Cougar and also earned league all-star honors on the basketball court.

Scouting Report: outstanding mound presence … up to 88 this winter … extremely fast worker who is fun to watch … will pitch valuable innings as a freshman at Stonehill … MLB comp: Tim Lincecum.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Marshall will add to North Shore’s local flavor in 2020. He hails from Swampscott where he pitched three varsity seasons for the Big Blue, earning 16 career wins and Northeastern Conference and Salem News All-Star honors as a senior. Marshall was one of three freshmen to work on the mound for the Skyhawks last spring, making 11 appearances and striking out 20 batters in 28.1 innings. He fanned at least five in two different outings including his first collegiate win against Bloomfield in just the third game of his career.

Scouting Report: 6’4” RHP with three pitches … starter stuff, sitting 87-89 … gets better every time he steps on the mound … will be a major piece of the Stonehill pitching staff … MLB comp: Cal Eldred.

The Navs are now preparing for the 13th season of collegiate ball at Fraser Field and their ninth in the Futures League. The 2020 opener is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27. Until then, stay up to date on the latest Navs news by visiting nsnavs.com and following us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
