Incoming Navs Conclude College Regular Seasons
College Baseball Report #14
Below is the 14th Navs College Baseball Report of the 2026 season. Weekly installments will be posted by Tuesday throughout the spring.
LYNN, Mass. — With less than three weeks until the North Shore Navigators kick off their 2026 season in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), postseason play is here across the college ranks. Here are the latest college highlights for the team's incoming players:
Hudson Ellis was a key bat behind Oral Roberts recording back-to-back wins to conclude its Summit League-leading regular season, highlighting the weekend with a 2-for-5, three-RBI performance on Friday that gave him hits in a fifth straight out of his last six games. The shortstop ripped a bases-clearing double in the eighth inning of the eventual 14-2 Golden Eagle win.
Fellow infielder Michael Brown has remained a steady threat at the plate for Hofstra ahead of the CAA Championship, sustaining a team-best .327 average. Brown contributed to the Pride winning last weekend's three-game series over Stony Brook by notching four hits across the first two contests. He had a triple and a double, two RBI and his second run scored of the weekend. He also stole his 11th base of the season on Thursday.
Also in the CAA, North Shore returnee Simmi Whitehill helped his Monmouth club finish the regular season strong, hitting a double in each of the Hawks' three games against North Carolina A&T. He totaled five hits, two RBI, three runs scored and a pair of stolen bases in the series. Whitehill carries a .321 average and team-high 43 RBI into tournament action.
Thomas Mahoney provided more solid work out of the Northeastern bullpen last weekend. The Winchester native made his sixth straight scoreless appearance on Saturday at Towson, pitching a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts. He has now fanned 13 batters in 10.2 innings on the season.
Also among familiar Fraser Field faces, Ray McNaught earned a season-ending start for Winthrop against Big South foe Cam Freeman and Longwood on Saturday, delivering two scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts en route to an Eagles win. Cole Yennaco posted his seventh save in Merrimack's series-opening win over Quinnipiac on Thursday. The Warriors have won each of Yennaco's last six appearances, which included the entirety of their current 10-game win streak in MAAC play.
Dayton's Jason Bello put together another stellar stretch to wrap up the season, launching his 18th home run to highlight a four-hit, four-RBI week in which his Flyers went 3-1 and swept Atlantic 10 foe George Washington over the weekend. Bello leads all incoming Navigators with 28 extra-base hits and 56 RBI for the season.
One of the Navs' latest roster additions, Maddix Simpson made his presence felt during Ohio State's Big Ten weekend sweep of Michigan. After recording an RBI single and scoring a run over the first two games of the series, the sophomore third baseman elevated his game on Saturday, driving in two runs and scoring another. Simpson is currently batting .276 with four homers and 30 RBI.
Staying in the Big Ten, Northwestern catcher Jay Slater had a productive Thursday outing against Rutgers with a run and a hit. He hit safely in five of his final seven games and finished the season with 15 extra-base hits.
The Navigators will return to historic Fraser Field and the NECBL for their 19th summer season in 2026, with first pitch set for Friday, June 5. Stay up to date on the latest Navs news by visiting nsnavs.com and following the team on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.
