Sharks Shut Down Navs on “Jaws” Night

OAK BLUFFS, Mass. (June 19, 2025) 一 The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks beat the North Shore Navigators 12-0 in Thursday night’s New England Collegiate Baseball League game at The Shark Tank on the campus of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.

Martha’s Vineyard scored four runs in the second, third and eighth innings en route to its fourth consecutive victory, improving to 5-5 on the season. North Shore fell to 4-10.

Designated hitter Michael Perazza (West Virginia) and center fielder Brooks Wright (Southeastern Louisiana) each contributed a double for North Shore, which played as the Quints Navigators in the special celebration game for the 50th anniversary of the movie “Jaws.”

Joseph Hauser (Northeastern) provided the Navs with strong middle relief, allowing just two hits, did not walk a batter and struck out five in 3.1 frames.

A four-run second inning gave Martha’s Vineyard a lead that it would never relinquish. After drawing back-to-back leadoff walks, second baseman Brayden Martin (Maryland) opened the scoring with an RBI single and left fielder Carter Bentley (Northeastern) broke the game open with a three-run home run out to right.

Four consecutive one-out baserunners allowed the Sharks to double their lead in the third, but Hauser came in to finish the inning and proceeded to retire seven of the first eight hitters he faced. Hauser recorded each of his first three outs by way of the strikeout.

After the duo of Hauser and John Milewski (Lafayette) combined to silence the Sharks offense across four straight innings, a four-run eighth finalized the scoring. The first three Vineyard runs of the inning came on back-to-back-to-back solo homers.

Bentley went 2-for-4 with four RBI to help lead Martha’s Vineyard. Brett Mulligan (Northeastern) earned the win in relief, pitching two scoreless innings following starter Ross Felder (Arkansas).

The Navs will move from the island to the Green Mountains to continue their extended road swing on Friday night, visiting the Vermont Mountaineers for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch at Montpelier Recreation Field.
