Navs NewsNavigators defeat Dirt Dawgs
The North Shore Navigators defeated the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs 10-5 at Fraser Field last night. Corey Stump (Florida) picked up the victory in relief. Stump was excellent going 3 1/3 innings giving up one hit and striking out five. The Navs opened the scoring in the first. After Dirt Dawgs starter Connor Ortolf (Lafayette College) quickly got the first two outs Tony Serino (UMASS/Saugus) and Ryan Muno (San Diego State) had back to back singles. Andrew Harris (Vanderbilt) drove in Serino with his RBI single for the first run of the game. The Navs scored two more times in the second. With Patrick Raley (UNC Charlotte) and Brad Elwood (UNC Charlotte) on base Tim Hendricks (Bucknell) ripped a two RBI double to left center. Raley scored easily and Elwood was able to score all the way from first, sliding around the tag at home. The Dirt Dawgs got on the board in the fourth. Ysander Figueroa (Wheaton) led off the inning with a triple and the next batter Shane Keddy (Quinsigamond) was able to bring him home with a sacrifice fly for the Dirt Dawgs first run. The Dirt Dawgs took the lead with a three run fifth inning. With two men on Jack St. Clair (Binghamton) had an RBI single scoring Vin Teixeira (Adelphi) to make it 3-2. After Figueroa tied it with his groundout Keddy gave the Dawgs the lead with his RBI single that scored St. Clair. The Navs fought back to retake the lead in the sixth. With Raley on first Elwood tied it up with his triple after Figueroa lost the ball in the lights. Hendricks gave the Navs the lead again with his single scoring Elwood. In the eighth inning with the bases loaded the Navs padded the lead. After the Navs scored on an error on a Muno grounder, Harris made it 8-4 with his two RBI double. Jake McGuiggan (Harvard) broke the game open with his RBI single that scored Harris and Muno. The Navs next game is Saturday night against the Seacoast Mavericks (7-8) at 7:00 p.m. The Navs return to action at Fraser Field on Wednesday July 4th when they take on the second place Nashua Silver Knights (11-5) at 1:30 p.m.
