Navs NewsNavigators Catch Fire Late Against Suns
The Navs score seven runs in the eighth to complete a 7-2-comeback victory over the Pittsfield Suns at Fraser Field. It is the Navs sixth straight victory and they improve to 7-1 on the season. Early on, the story was Suns’ RHP Dan Bradley (Assumption College). Bradley was excellent on the mound shutting down the Navs bats through seven innings only allowing five hits and no runs. Navs starter Adrian Benitez (Barry University) was strong on the mound as well, only allowing three hits through five innings. Benitez gave up two unearned runs after two costly errors. The Suns opened the scoring in the top of the first. After an error at third by the Navigators’ Ryan Muno (San Diego State) put two Suns on base, Jimmy Ricoy (UMass Lowell) drove in Ryan Deitrich (University of Pennsylvania) for the first run of the game. In the top of the fifth the Suns added another run after an error by Navs second baseman Brad Elwood (UNC Charlotte) to take a 2-0 lead. With Bradley out of the game the Navs fought back sending 12 men to the plate and scoring seven runs in the eighth. With Tony Serino (Saugus, Mass./UMass Amherst) on first Andrew Harris (Vanderbilt University) hit a blooper to right field that dropped in. Serino and Harris both then advanced to second and third on the throw. With Brett Cahill (Gloucester, Mass/Salem State) up Serino scored on a wild pitch and Harris advanced to third. In the same at bat Cahill drove in Harris to tie the score at 2-2. With two outs and the bases loaded Jake McGuiggan (Harvard University) drove in the go ahead run with a single. Tim Hendricks (Benedictine University) made it 4-2 when he scored on an Eridani Dume (Fisher College) single that died in front of the plate. A Serino single made it 5-2. Andrew Harris (Vanderbilt) made it 7-2 with his two RBI single to close out the eighth. The Navs bullpen was excellent to shut the door in the final four innings. Mike Weisman (North Andover, Mass./Columbia University), Miles Landry (Baylor University) and Ryan Grant (Wheaton College) closed the game holding the Suns to three hits over the final four innings. The Navs return to action on Sunday in Old Orchard Beach against the Raging Tide (2-3) at 1:00 PM. The Navs return to Fraser Field on Tuesday night when they take on the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks (2-2) at 7:00 PM. Click here to go back to news articles |
